Reiko's 5th Journal
This time I had an opportunity to know a little bit about Kellie Lim, who is a pediatrics physician. I was impressed about her experience while watching the interview, and thought that how hard her life had been or how much effort she had put into her life so far. She was never a pessimistic person even though she encountered a misfortunate life when she was 8 years old. Her story kind of recalled the things my younger brother had been trying to do when I lived with him.
My younger brother used to be right handed until he got into a University. One day, when he was a second-year student of high school, as long as I remember, he suddenly started practicing how to use his left hand in every way. I totally didn’t understand why he stopped using his right hand, which was his stronger hand, and tried to use left hand. He, an ordinary person, didn’t need to practice like that. I sometimes used to make fun of his way of using chopsticks when having dinner with him and looking at him take longer to dial on the phone. It took for him a year or more to get used to using his left hand, but he finally succeeded in switching to his stronger hand.
I actually still don’t know why my brother decided to switch his stronger hand, however, after I watched Kellie’s interview tonight I am now very curious what he was thinking at the time. I want to ask him about the story sometime.
Obviously it’s not easy for people to switch the stronger hand especially after they already got used to using other one. The thing I thought today was it might be a good idea to start practicing how to use the hand which is not one’s stronger hand because we never know if an unfortunate accident will happen tomorrow.

EDGAR's Journal 5
From the assignment of this week, I learned and understand better how a disability can be a way to help an individual to achieve higher goals. I believe that when you have a disability, you have a different perspective on life and earn extra strength to attain a certain goal. Why does a person like Kelly suffer a disability? Kelly looks good physically, sounds confident and intelligent. Why do good people have these kind of events in their lives? I believe Kelly and all those who have a disability were born to be an inspiration and make a positive difference for the rest of the world.

Watching and listening to Obama's comments and opinions about the war in Iraq, brought to me similar opinions about the issue. I think the US should not start a war. War can always have unpredictable results, costs of human life and money, and will not produce peace. I believe that, Instead, the US should have supported a stronger UN inspections program and worked to remove Saddam through legal and peaceful means.
In my opinion, the American government administration put the country in an unpopular situation. Ignoring international treaties and standards, the US, showed to the world a negative image. Instead of fighting terrorists, the actions taken by the government are creating more hate and incentive for new generations to fight against the US, not only in Iraq but in many parts of the world.
In conclusion, taking actions or decision without a clear and pacific plan created negativeness for the US in the eyes of the world. The Iraq war brings a variety of results, most of them are not positive and it has costs within and outside the country.

Health has been an important part of the human daily life. Many individuals try to have a healthy lives trying to eat, drink and exercise in a positive way. Nowadays, people have the tendency to preoccupy for their body weight and appearance. The tyra's Show watched this week shows that being discipline with oneself can help achieve a set goal. The winner of the America's Next Top Model implies that before the show she was not in a good physical shape. She started to follow a diet to obtain a shape necessary to be a model, it took her two years and finally she attained her goal. As a foreign student I have not seen many people worrying about overweight, maybe because is not a usual issue on my country. Discipline oneself is in a situation is complicated and difficult. A person has to be determined and strong, the media and society in general has a lot of influence and tempt anyone to quit a set goal such as a diet. I believe if a person desires to loose weight can reach that point with time and patience. Many people will choose a surgery to get rid of the overweight or take other drastic dangerous measures. A planned diet is a healthy one because a person has steps to follow and a clear idea of where is the diet leading to. On the other hand, a surgery is unpredictable, it can reduce weight but the body can have reactions and cause serious damage in the future of a person. A diet well planned and the personal discipline a person have can lead not only to loose weight but to gain attributes such as patience and self control.

Hilary Clinton is a person that I admire as woman but I disagree with some of her views in politics. For instance, she agrees indirectly with the war in Iraq and make me think that her husband could influence in her decisions. I was surprised Tyra would ask Hillary Clinton, a candidate for President, about her husband's affair. I thought Tyra would avoid this kind of questions, but impressed me she had the strength to ask Hillary about it. In addition, Hillary sounded normal and confident answering the question. I love Politics, my uncle was a governor of my city in Bolivia, and my grandfather was killed during a civil war in 1952 because of his political views and disagreements. I guess that is the reason of my interest in politics. I understand is really hard to lead a campaign, you need to be physically and mentally in good shape, particularly here in the US. You loose a lot of sleep time, eating time and, the most important, family time. My uncle always tell us his experiences being in a campaign and he remembers that because he had to talk a lot on TV interviews, newspapers or streets make his body to loose water, so he had to carry or request water all the time. Hillary and the other candidates, even though they are older, are ready and capable to lead this country, not only for their knowledge, experience or plans but for their preparation physically and mentally. I am inclined towards Obama, he is young and someone different than the other candidates, which I think is what this country need, a new face and new changes.
