The first thing what I felt after watching the talk show is my listening skill still have a problem to follow their talking in real talk show. I’ve listened many times repeatedly, but still I have some parts that I cannot totally understand. I hope it will getting better if I practice to listen again and again and take dictate it.
after I’ve moved to hawaii , I can contact about American president candidates many times on television or newspaper. Actually , I have a little interested in politician, even in Korean. I just had concered about who won the primary between obama and hillary. In this talk show, I could know hillary’s human side like a just a student who met a guy after taking a class, and have a lot of headbands still now. Whenever I think about hillary, the first feeling about her is power, strength, and speech skills, etc. however, I ‘ve changed my view to hillary from strong politician to human who is similar with us.
In korea, we have talk shows what have guests like politicians sometimes. Through the talk show, they show us their more humanlike aspects. In comparison to Korean talk shows, tyra show’s atmosphere is more informal and free. But sometime I felt annoyed when tyra cut hillary’s talking. It makes harder to understand their talking to me.

Through this talk show, I’ve realized how black women feel about their appearance, love and their confidence. I have never thought about black people seriously, because I’m Korean, an Asian. Actually, I haven’t had a lot of experience with black women as well as black people. Although I’m living in Hawaii, it’s very uncommon to be close to black people, that’s why I am unconcerned about their lives and their opinion. While I was watching this talk show, I thought not only racial discrimination but sexual discrimination still exists in the world. I have heard about that, especially Asians have a prejudice against black people. In Korea, there are lots of foreign English teachers working in many colleges or private language school now, but it is difficult to find the teachers who are black people. That’s because most students prefer the teachers with white skin color more than black teachers. I think it’s sort of a conservative stereotype about other races. It has been changed a lot, but the crimination still remains in many people’s thinking. Black women compared with black men are treated more discriminatingly. Standards of women’s beauty are usually followed by the white women’s appearance. For almost all women, tall height, slim legs, big breasts, big double-eyelids , a long nose, fair skin, and straight hair are the common standards of beauty. However, I could catch through Tyra’s show that the black women have a strong confidence in themselves in this kind of hard reality. It was very impressive to me even though they have difficulty finding a boyfriend or to getting married; they never think about their race in a bad way. They always try to be successful and have a strong confidence instead of just feeling frustrated.

One of my roommates was a flight attendant for Arab Emirates airline. Sometimes, I’ve heard some stories about her experiences from her time of working for that airline company. Arab Emirate’s air line usually flies over Middle-east countries. So she served to a lot of Indian passangers on the plane. She usually talked about Indian’s class has a large gap between themselves about different opinions and scale of properties. When she stayed in India and walked along a town’s street, almost every Indian stared at her very curiously, like as a monkey in the zoo, because they have few experiences seeing Asians. On the other hand, when she served first class passengers , she was surprised that they were totally different from the common people. One time, one passenger gave to the captain of the plane a tip of 8000 dollars. Though this time, watching a talk show, I caught that Aishwarya as the top model and movie star in the world, but she is still concerned about and follows taboos and traditional ideologies, the kind of conservative rules in India. I felt that Aishwarya ‘s keeping her country’s taboo can be sort of pride or patriotism in a good way. In Korea, we also have our own taboo or still keep traditional things in our society. As a stranger’s view, when we see India’s life, we can maybe consider it’s too conservative and cannot understand. However I think it’s important to comprehense their lifestyle, culture, tradition including taboos. That we can not see the kissing scenes in Indian movie can be their own unique style in the film market over the world. Aishwarya ‘s discussion about her culture and taboos on a worldwide talk show and introducing her country’s traditional clothes was impressive to me.
