Sabina's 1st Journal - Tyra Banks Show with Hillary Clinton

“You weren’t born with the same genes as somebody else” and “you’ve got to develop our respect and appreciation for who you are” are the most impressive remarks of Hillary Clinton. When I was a high school student, I didn’t like my appearance. “Why am I the shortest of all my siblings?” “I want to have bigger eyes, a smaller face and sharp nose.” These were my main agonies during my school days. Knowing that my external features could not be changed, I decided not to set a high value on how I look. As I get older and have more wrinkles, external features are not my concern.

In Korea, many people especially women have plastic surgery to change their appearance like beautiful actresses. Even quite old people do it. “Lookism”, which means discrimination against or prejudice towards others based on their appearances, is widely spread in Korea as well as all over the world. Frankly speaking, seeing a handsome man is kind of pleasure for me. However, I do not want to judge him by his appearance. I think that people should be valued by what they accomplish, or their character, or generosity, or intelligence or something else.

A few years ago, there was an advertising slogan of a Korean insurance company. It was “Nobody can remember a second place winner.” After it became popular, I heard a joke related to a woman tennis player. “Everybody remembers only second place.” At that time, Venus Williams had the No.1 world ranking and Maria Sharapova was following her.

Also, people use to say that "if you are beautiful, people will forgive all your faults when you make mistake.” How stupid this is! Like what Hillary Clinton said, all of us are different. All of us cannot be handsome and beautiful, so we need to search for our own values not outside but inside ourselves.

Unfortunately, most of people try to not find their value, but just make a good appearance. Your perspective was agreeable to me.

I definitely agree with you.
But I still can't get a confidence with my appearance.

I think it is so true in real life, and also it is so not fair for people who don’t have a good-looking face. However, I think pretty on the inside of a person is last longer.

There is a saying "You'll be sick and tired of a beautiful woman". All the adjectives such as beautiful, cute, hot, and ugly are used to express very subjective opinion about something.
