Sabina's 5th Journal - Larry King with Kellie Lim

Two things about Kellie Lim are impressive. Firstly, “Nothing is impossible for her” is a good sentence about her. Her physical conditions could not be an obstacle any more when she decided what to do. She did everything she wanted with missing limbs, which shows us her courage and perseverance. She challenged sky diving that even ordinary people like me couldn’t try.

Next, I want to talk about her mother who passed away. She raised her daughter brilliantly, even though she was blind. Kellie might have not accomplished her goal without her mother. Most of the disabled who lived a successful life have a brave and strong-willed mother supporting them. I know a Korean disabled person, who is famous for being the “four-fingered pianist.” Her name is Hee-ah. When she was born with serious handicaps, everybody including her close relatives and doctors recommended her mother to adopt out to another country such as Canada where the disabled can live without prejudice. They asked her mother not to take her home. But her mother didn’t listen to them. She took her baby home and got ready for struggling against biased eyes and remarks about the disabled. She said that Hee-ah’s hands with only four fingers looked like tulips. Reading about her history, I wondered why she decided to make her daughter become a pianist. For pianists, having only four fingers is more serious than any other disability. Also, her legs are too short to press piano pedals. However, those were not barriers to make her dream come true. Her mom designed a special piano and changed the music notes for four fingers. What if she didn’t have such a great mother? Fortunately, my children were born healthily, so I didn’t need extra power to handle serious problems. But nobody knows what will happen in the future. I wish I could be a strong mother to let them know an intelligent and wise way to overcome problems when they encounter difficulties and get in trouble.
