5th journal -hye won

When I saw the first scene of this talk show, I expected that today journal’s topic is maybe about just a doctor story. However, I was very surprised that she was carrying a chart with an arm, not a hand. After watching the whole talk show, I was surprised again that I had had a prejudiced attitude toward a disabled person who works as a doctor. One of the big reasons for my astonishment is that I’ve never seen the doctor who doesn’t have an arm and leg so far. Especially, in the case of in Korea, I think they would have more difficulties to get a job compared with healthy people. I’m not sure how it is different in the American case, but at least it will be easier for disabled people to live in America, than in Korea. I don’t intend to criticize Korea, but I could sense the view with discrimination to the disabled. Candidly, I am even one of the people who think disabledpeople could not work better than able-bodies people.
These days, many changes have been arising in Korean society, first basically based on the look of people to the disabled. One example, represents Korea is the disabled swimming federation, Ji-eun, Kim has a problem with her legs, so she walks lame. At first, she started swimming because of her boyfriend’s persuasion that swimming is good for rehabilitation treatment. But now swimming allowed her to have a new life, and this could set a good example of overcoming a problem and having a confidence for other people. People usually react to disabled people with pity and sympathy, but they are the same people as us, they can study, can take care of patients, can swim and have a right to get a job they want and enjoy a life

I myself agree that American society take very good care of the disabled. We can see it whenever we get on a bus or a market place. Entrancces to any buildings are always available for them. Other countries can absolutely do the same.

Yes, I agree with you that we have to change our prejudice that disabled people would do worse than normal people.

Do you know Jinho, who is a gold medalist in World Swimming Championship for the disabed. He is strong enough to compete with ordinary swimmer.
