There was a really popular drama called ‘My name is Samsoon Kim’. The story is about Samsoon who desperately wants to change her name as Samsoon sounds funny and old-fashioned. The name implies her general situation now that she is in her thirties, fatty and doesn’t have a boyfriend, which makes her feel unpleased with life. So, she tries to change her name in the meaning of living new life.
The name is important part of our life. I don’t know about other country, but in Korea we think that the name affects their future life, so when people give a name to their children, they consider meaning of the name as well as sound. In order to make good name, many people go to the place where giving a name. They give a name considering Four Pillars which are supposed to influence one’s fate, it contains the year, month, day and hour of birth. Not only come the person who want to name their baby but also one who are going to change the name to have better name. There are many people who actually came to success after changing the name. Nobody can prove that’s really true, but I think it makes people have a confidence with name and it leads positive results.
There is one more arising issue related to name, which gives the family name of both of parents to their children. In Korea, people inherit a family name of father, but women started to insist that’s unfair and children have a right to choose the family name. Accordingly, the number of people who give a family name of both parents is increasing. I actually haven’t thought about having both family name, but it seems worth to have both in terms of respecting parents.
Anyway, I think I have to start to think of name of my kid in order to give a good name. What kind of name can be a perfect for him or her? That’s going to be my big task.

My brother spent $500 giving his newborn baby a good name. Too much money to get just a name, I think. In my opinion a good name is something easy to be pronounced and to be remembered.
It's a nice think to look for a name with a meaning. I was thought that words are powerful too. My name means: peaceful leader. I hope I can be a leader who maintains peace.
